Quality of Life

Recreation

While the great outdoors is just one component of our community’s quality of life, it’s a pretty big one. Both the Waccamaw and Lumber Rivers wind through the county eventually joining and flowing into the nearby Atlantic Ocean.   All of this water makes for great boating, fishing, hiking and hunting. And with the white sand beaches just a short drive away, the options for outdoor recreation are endless.

For information on local parks and recreational opportunities, be sure to visit both the Columbus County Parks and Recreation department and the City of Whiteville Parks and Recreation department.  For information on the two North Carolina State Parks in the region, be sure to check out the Lake Waccamaw State Park, one of the largest and oldest natural lakes in the region, and the Lumber River State Park, recently voted to be "One of NC's Top Ten Natural Wonders!"
