County Leaders Looking to Bring Trains Back to Columbus Co.
COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) –Leaders in Columbus County will meet next week to talk about bringing train service between Columbus County and several South Carolina counties to the area.
Next Monday officials from Columbus County, Marion County, SC and Horry County, SC will meet to discuss how to get trains moving again through the three counties.
Columbus County's economic director Gary Lanier and Chadbourn Town Manager Stevie Cox arranged the meeting. Lanier said they expect more than 60 people including mayors, business owners and county commissioners to attend.
Due to train tracks not meeting government regulations, a train has not traveled through Columbus County in a year. The meeting will take place in Loris, SC, which is a few miles outside of Tabor City. The meeting next Monday will be at the public safety office and will begin at 6 p.m.
